Paper laid on board inscribed, Peggy, and signed by the renowned portrait artist T.Alfred West. It is recorded that the portrait was exhibited at the Liverpool autumn exhibition in 1921 and was priced at £10.00. The artist was at that time residing at 25 Turret Road, Wallasey. He also exhibited at The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of Oil Painters, The Royal Cambrian Academy and the Manchester, Liverpool (now The Walker) and Hull Art Galleries, etc.

West studied art in both the Manchester and Liverpool Schools of Art and studied sculpture and modelling in the South Kensington Arts School under the renowned French Sculptor and medallist, Edouard Lanteri. Beginning as a lithographic artist at the age of 16, he was to become highly accomplished at a young age, winning various awards and prizes such as the Queen's Prize for Drawing and Painting and eventually exhibiting at The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of Painters in Oil, The Royal Cambrian Academy as well as leading provincial art galleries such as the Liverpool Gallery (now The Walker), and Manchester. |
