An abstract and near abstract painter, Kinley was born in Vienna but arrived in England in the late 1930's. After several years in the army he studied at Dusseldorf Academy 1948-49 and at St Martin's School of Art London 1949-53.
Kinley first showed at Young Contemporaries in 1951, followed by the first of several solo shows at Gimpel Fils in 1954. He went on to show sidely in the UK, New York at Paul Rosenberg & Co and in India. In 1982 Kinley had a retrospective at Kettle's Yard Gallery Cambridge which toured.
Kinley taught at St Martin's 1954-64 and Bath Academy and Bath College of Higher Education. He was influenced by the work of French painter Nicholas de Stael.
