A truly stunning mid 19th Century coromandel sewing box by Hausburg’s of Liverpool, the top and front are beautifully inlaid in brass, pewter and mother of pearl with trailing flowers, birds and butterflies, the top opens to reveal a red velvet and silk lined interior, the interior of the lid has a white padded silk area crisscrossed in red ribbon, whilst the removable tray in the base holds a magnificent selection of silver items, including ten engraved cotton reel holders, four engraved silk winders, tape measure, needle cleaner, blank holder and what would appear to be a small pepper or pounce pot, the central oval pad has a selection of silver tools, thimble and finger guard and scissors, removing this pad reveals another pad with two mother of pearl tools and on the reverse of this there are another two tools.
Each of the silver pieces are engraved with a ducal coronet with a demi-lion, but despite our best efforts we have been unable to track down which family this belonged to.
