Albert George Williams was born in Hove, Sussex on 20 March 1922 the son of the still life painter Arthur C Williams. He was taught by his father and grandfather also an artist before going on to attend art schools in Brighton, London and Paris. He studied under Louis Ginnett and Charles Knight and after leaving art school in London started working for Sanderson’s in their studio.

At the end of the Second World War he moved back to Brighton and began specialising in floral painting in the style of the 17th century Dutch school and took his compositions directly from nature. Williams exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Watercolour Society, Royal Institute of Painters in Oils and also at the Paris Salon.

He was an active member of the Brighton Arts Club and during his lifetime his work was represented at a number of prestigious galleries including the Fine art Society, Frost and Reed and JM Stringer, New Jersey. Williams lived and worked at 7 Wilbury Crescent, Hove the former home of the artist Charles Burleigh. He died at Hove in 2010.

The painting is housed in a new, English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
