Born in Anderlecht in 1877, Henri Roidot was a painter in oils and watercolours whose subject matter was the landscape in the Province of Brabant in Walloon. Other contemporary well-known artists from this part of Belgium include Lucien Franck, Paul Leduc, Maurice Hagemans and Hubert van den Bossche.
He did his training at L`Académie de Saint-Gilles and L`Académie de Bruxelles and his style was a blend of Belgian Luminism and Impressionism. He particularly liked to depict the small valleys around Linkebeek and he often applied the vivid colours with a palette knife.
Roidot was a member of Vie et Lumiere which was founded in 1904 around Emile Claus. It was a group of the principle luminist artists in Belgium formed with the intent of holding one exhibition a year and also taking part as a group in other shows. He was also a member of Pour l`Art which was a fairly radical artistic circle founded in 1892 for the express purpose of challenging older artists to evolve with the new direction that art was taking in Europe, and of Uccle Centre d`Art.
Museums where his work can be seen include: Brussels, Mons and Ixelles.
