Late Dynastic Period, 715-332 B.C.
A deep blue glazed amulet of God Thoth in ibis form, squatting, the beak supported by the feather of Ma'at. A very nice piece.
This kind of amulet may has had particularly funerary connotations.
The God Thoth is known as the keeper and recorder of all knowledge, the inventor of language. Ma'at, his wife, is the Egyptian concept of truth, balance, order, law, morality, and justice.
