It is a true musical longcase clock dating from the late 18th century with a enamel dial. The movement with substantial shaped plates and six movement pillars, three train chiming every hour on a nest of 14 bells with 24 hammers striking the hours as well on a larger single bell. The dial has strike/silent and chime/silent subsidiary dials in the top with a large 12 tune selector as well. In the lower half we have seconds and an aperture with a silvered engraved disk giving day of the month. The dial has delicate gilded decoration. The clock has three brass cased weights; the larger one driving the musical side weighing at some 20Lb.
The case is made from well figured flame mahogany and has superb proportions. The base stands on a fine double plinth then the base itself has a raised panel with a delicate moulding around, a fine moulding joins the base to trunk and the trunk is dominated by the long elegant door with a Dutch gable end top, mirroring the caddy to the hood. To each side of the door we have quarter columns with integral capitals these are reeded. The hood has free standing reeded columns with superb brass capitals the top ones being of Corinthian form, the columns are brass inlaid. To each side and to the top we have sound frets allowing the music to escape.
A fine, complex and elegant clock by a well respected maker who commanded a world record for prices on his work.
A full restoration has been undertaken but a top Movement restorer and like wise for the case. we have full details of what was done including photographs.
