The rosewood games table with its shaped top and brass galleries has a reversible centre section for backgammon and chess. The demi-lune lids lift up on brass hinges revealing a pen and ink compartment on the right and an empty compartment on the left intended for stowing chess pieces. Below the brass inlaid frieze is a concealed rosewood writing slide.

The lyre shaped supports with the original brass anthemion mounts is typical of George Oakley's work and similar to brass fittings on a suite of furniture supplied to Sir Henry and Sir John Sutton Nelthorpe, the 7th and 8th Barons of Scawby Hall.
The style and quality is so typical of George Oakley's workshops.
