A fine Swiss carved wood panel study of 'Eidelweiss', c. 1900. The intricately carved flower, delicately worked in the round, from one piece of wood, including the panel. Within original frame, and protected by a glazed dome.
Perfect. No damage. No repairs.
I have found reference to a Fritz Abplanalp ( 1907- 1982), who was a renowned wood carver, and presumably the son, or relative of Jacob Abplanalp.
Abplanalp is the surname of a family originating on a mountain named Planalp above Brienz, a village in the Swiss Alps near the town of Interlaken, attested in August 1306 and probably dating to the late 10th century when an avalanche occurred on the mountain. The name has frequently been changed to Planalp in the United States.
