Edward Bawden
1903 – 1989

Edward Bawden was a British painter, illustrator and graphic artist who best known for his designs for book covers, posters and prints and his work as an official War Artist during the Second World War.

Bawden played an important role in the history of English Artists, his designs have also been used for London transport and are still visible at Tottenham Hale and Victoria Underground stations.
Bawden's work is reminiscent of English countryside and towns, often paying particular attention to the scenes around his home county of Essex. He worked during a great time for British Artists and was amongst others such as Eric Ravilious, John Aldridge, Edward Ardizzone and John Piper.

The ten pencil signed and numbered Linocuts are from 'Edward Bawden A Book of Cuts, Ruari McLean' and are of various English themes including Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. Some of Bawden's works are also held at the Tate in London.
