THE PINK THATCHED COTTAGE
GEORGE LEON LITTLE
Oil on board 6 ½ x 10 ¼ inches
Framed size 11 ½ x 15 inches
George was born in London and went on to become a painter of landscapes and portraits.
He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists from 1884, the Royal Academy; the New English Art Club and Goupil Gallery.
George was recorded living in Rudgwick near Horsham, Sussex in 1888 and Kingswood, Reigate, Surrey in 1900.
While in the area he painted Outwood Mill which still exists today; this painting is in the collection of the Atkinson Art Gallery. Reigate Town Hall also has a number of paintings by him.
His earlier work is quite traditional in style but he adapted to a wonderfully flowing impressionistic style, as this painting illustrates.
It is recorded that he painted H. Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure novels.
George died on 13th May 1941.
