John Wilson Jowsey was born in Ashington, Northumberland, the son of a shipwright. He studied art in Edunburgh, Paris and Newlyn. Shortly before the World War I he opened a studio in Newcastle, where he painted portraits of leading Tyneside shipowners. In 1928 he moved to London, were he worked as a portrait painter until his death. He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, Paris Salon and elsewhere. |
