Adam vol.20/40

At 15 (later 38) Berkeley Square Adam designed redecorations for the front and back drawing rooms. These included ceilings, friezes, chimneypieces and mirrors for both rooms. The client was Robert Child, a member of the wealthy family of bankers, for whom Adam was also engaged on remodelling the Elizabethan mansion of Osterley Park. This mirror frame was intended to stand on the mantelshelf of the rear drawing Room on the first floor.

A very unusual design with a startling geometry that gives it a modern feel. The favoured anthemion motif is used again but as a bold statement rather than as a delicate detail.
