THE DUCK POND
1876 - 1953 Signed
Oil on canvas 27 ½ x 31 ½ inches
Framed size 34 x 38 inches
Painter and watercolourist, who was born in Ganshoren, Belgium in 1876 on the 5 September.
Little is known about his early art training but he is first seen exhibiting at “Le Sillon” in Brussels in 1899 and was a member of that group.
He was a painter of landscapes, genre scenes and still lifes.
He started painting watercolours in a realistic romantic style but later developed a much looser broader style.
Wagemaekers often painted ‘plein air’ landscapes in the area of Brabant and around Antwerp.
He became a very accomplished painter of many different subjects, always showing off his strong confident brushwork as can be seen in this wonderful example of this landscape work.
