Rupert Shephard was born on the 12th February 1909 in Islington, London. He worked in oils, watercolours, etching and lithography. He studied at the Slade School from 1926-29 under Henry Tonks. From 1929 he exhibited with the London Group, the Royal Academy, the Royal Portrait Gallery and the New English Arts Club. He was appointed an official war artist in 1945. He taught at the Central School of Arts and Crafts 1946-48, and in South Africa he was Professor of Art at the Michaelis School of Art in Cape Town 1948-63.

His works can be found in the public collections of the Imperial War Museum, the National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum.
Very good condition. Two discolouration marks in margin top left and right from old mounting. Otherwise strong and vibrant colours
