A volume of poetry by Austin, The Human Tragedy includes a thirty page introduction On the Position and prospects of Poetry, in which Austin muses on a phrase by a 'most agreeable critic of our time (unnamed)' that 'most of what now passes with us for Religion and Philosophy will be replaced by Poetry', pp 320 blue cloth boards with gilded decoration and spine title gilding.

The interesting aspect to this book is its dedication 'To the Marquis of Hartington (Spencer Compton, later from 1891 Duke of Devonshire)With warm admiration His ??????????? Patriotism ???? de ???????. October 25. 1889'.
Some minor staining to the boards,gilded board decoration vg. good spine gilded title, pages very clean,several still uncut.
