Alexander Abdo was a painter of fantasies, and symbolic and romantic landscapes. He studied art privately, and exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the London Salon, the Royal Academy, and the Royal Cambrian Academy.
The Last Parade is also a symbolic painting. It represents The Cycles, and the pattern of change that occurs in life; death being irrevocable. Above the scene fly carrion crows, and a dull heavy sky weighs down over all. The great weight of the blacks in the foreground locks the mourners together in the grief of the shared occasion.
