Mounted, framed and glazed map from Plot's Natural History of Oxford-Shire, c. 1677?, frame approximately 700mm x 740mm, map approximately 485mm x 500mm in size. Later hand colouring to map, cartouche and coats of arms. Old creases from folds, crease near the 'arms of the gentry' section (towards bottom left hand corner) possibly a score, small score to bottom right hand corner detaching a small piece of the map (though present). The most decorative map of the county, there were three editions of the book, 1676, 1677 and 1705, though there were no changes to the map so this could be from any of those editions. Engraved by Michael Burghers, who assisted in the engraving of Loggan's 'Oxonia Illustrata', the border contains one hundred and seventy-two coats of arms, with each armorial being keyed to a numbered residence on the map. Cordeaux and Merry - Oxfordshire:4; Madan 3130 (for the book in both cases)
