Felice Vezzani was an Italian genre and landscape painter who was born in Novellara, Italy. He attended art school and went on to become a professional painter. He later became president of the Society of Mutual Aid and an activist for the Socialist movement writing several pamphlets. He lived in the US and later moved to Brazil and then Argentina. In 1898, he exhibited at the Italian Exposition and in 1900 he moved to Paris to work at the World Exhibition and remained there for the rest of his life. At the outbreak of World War I he moved to London before returning to Paris in 1918. Vezzani specialised in amusing historical genre scenes. He died in Paris on November 2, 1930.

The painting is housed in its original gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
