William Stott was a portrait and landscape painter who was from a Scottish family but was raised in London.
He exhibited his work in London from 1905 to 1934. This painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy along with 21 other works. He also exhibited 4 paintings at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, 3 at the London Salon, 1 at Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, and 1 at the Royal Hibernian Academy.
It is recorded that he was living in London at
1 Lamont Road, Chelsea S.W, from 1905 to 1908.
In 1909 he was in Aberdeen and then came back to London in 1910, and is recorded living at, 2 Studio,
14a Cheyne Row, S.W.
Stott has all the talents of the “Modern British” landscape school which gives these paintings such enduring appeal with elegant flowing brush work and natural vibrant colour.
