Oil on canvas
Early XVIII century, circa 1720
Origin: private collection of Southern France
Frame in wood and gilt plaster, Empire period
Dimensions: Height 97 cm (38.22 inches) – Length 113 cm (44.52 inches)
Remarkable oil on canvas depicting a beautiful blue-eyed baby, lying on a large red cushion and facing the spectator, covered in a white drape and holding an imperial dagger tight in his hand. On the backround, opening the scene, a wide baroque curtain on the sides, while in the centre, a crown holder in the shape of a terrestrial globe
appears in the distance, surmounted by an imperial crown, symbol of power and domination over the one kingdom.
Clearly of French taste, our work of art is a beautiful example of baroque picture
from early XVIII Century, with pictorial influence from the end of XVII Century.
Very high quality, soft and consistent brush strokes.
The bright skin tone of the little Prince really is remarkable, and reflects the light from the curtains in shades of amethyst purple.
No missing parts nor pictorial restorings are evident, original crossbeam chassis,
Certificate of authenticity with photos attached, and report complete with ultraviolet examination.
