HENRY H. PARKER
(H.D. HILLYER)

1858 -1930 Signed
Oil on canvas 30 x 45 inches
Framed size 38 3/4 x 53 3/4 inches

Henry H. Parker was a Midlands landscape painter working in the last quarter of the 19th Century. He did not exhibit his work in London and little is known about his life, but he clearly had a successful career painting mostly for private galleries.
It would appear that he was under contract to paint for one or more dealers as he adopted the practice of using a ‘nom de brush’ that of H.D. Hillier or Hillyer. This allowed him to sell his work through other dealers without being discovered.
His work has become extremely popular as he portrays the timeless beauty of the British countryside.
Parker painted mostly views on the Thames, in Surrey, Kent and Wales. His paintings were in a similar style to those of B.W. Leader.
