Filip Andreevic Maljavin studied painting at the St.Petersburg Academy under Repin 1892-9. He became a member of the Union of Russian Artists in 1903 and elected Academician in 1906. He exhibited at Diaghilev's show of Russian Art at the Salon d'Automme in Paris 1906. He exhibited in Venice 1907 and in Rome 1911. After the Russian Revolution he taught painting at the Free Art Studios in Moscow and at Ryazan. In 1921 he exhibited at the World of Art in Moscow and the following year he emigrated to France and settled in Paris.
