LEON BALLIN

Flourished 1880 - 1920 signed
Oil on panel 6 x 8 ½ inches
Framed size 11 x 13 3/8 inches

Leon Ballin was born in France.

His paintings are of small scale and beautifully painted with particular details throughout the composition.
He appears to paint mostly European scenes of Paris especially along the river Seine.
These are full of light which bounce off the buildings and there are blue skies above, capturing the glory of Paris in the sunshine.
There is little on record of his early life or art education but he seems to capture the tradition of ‘plein air’ painting, often utilizing small wooden panels which were easy to use on a small easel in the open.
His work is not often found on the market but most of those that are, show the major landmarks of Pairs around 1900.
