George Goodwin Kilburne RI ROI (1839-1924)
Born in Norfolk, the eldest of three children, he was apprenticed to the Brothers Dalziel, a highly productive firm of Victorian engravers founded in 1839, as a wood engraver. Kilburne was considered by them as "one of the most satisfactory pupils we ever had" and he went on to marry their niece.
He turned from engraving to painting and specialised in hunting scenes and genre subjects set in the 18th century.
In 1881 the Kilburne family were recorded as living in Hampstead, London. He was elected a member of the RI in 1866 and the ROI in 1883.

Illustrative works include a large number of black and white pictures to The Graphic, The Illustrated London News and Cassell's Magazine.
