THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
FRANS DE BRUYN
1867 -1943 Signed
Oil on canvas 43 ½ x 32 ½ inches
Framed size 57 ¾ x 46 ¾ inches
Antwerp painter of Post Impressionist landscapes, orchards and gardens.
He lived and worked in the small town of Schelle in Belgium, a province of Antwerp.
Little is known of his early artistic training but this picture shows a prodigious talent.
There is a strong influence of Vincent Van Gogh to be seen in this painting.
His works are rarely seen on the market and often make far less than they should.
He is known to have exhibited a painting at the Casino de Grand in 1892 and at Anvers in 1898.
The exhibition frame on this painting would be well beyond the means of most artists and would suggest that it was for a major exhibition.
There are two works by him in the Antwerp Museum
