Most elegant late 18th Century Cuban mahogany Stick Barometer in essentially original condition; the case with arched top with the silvered brass register plate, classically engraved, signed by the maker, and bearing manually operated vernier slide; the finely patinated trunk, edge moulded, with book-matched veneers and the exposed barometer tube terminating within hemispherical cistern cover.


Blunt was a highly respected optical and mathematical instrument maker, who worked from premises in Cornhill and Minories from 1760 until his death in 1822. Apprenticed to the eminent Edward Nairne, his many accomplishments included the Royal Warrant from George III.
