Attractive and unusual mahogany Wheel Barometer; the ‘break-arch’ pediment over case, of well-patinated figured mahogany, banded in ebony and inset with 8-inch diameter barometer dial, signed by the maker with the address 62 Charing Cross. This barometer is particularly unusual for never having had a thermometer.

“Jones of Charing Cross” [1775-1852] was a highly accomplished Instrument-maker, who flourished for over 50 years from the end of his apprenticeship to the renowned Jesse Ramsden, working primarily from his premises at 62 Charing Cross. He was elected F.R.S. in 1835.
