Most elegant early 19th Century mahogany Marine Stick Barometer; the slender case, square in cross-section with bowed sides; ring suspension over engraved ivory maker’s plate, and matching ivory barometer and Fahrenheit / Réaumur thermometer register plates below, protected by hinged door. The trunk, mounted on later hinged brass gimbals, and concealing original barometer tube, terminating in unusual turned brass cistern cover.

Apprenticed to the renowned Jesse Ramsden, Jones quickly established an enviable reputation for himself, working primarily from premises in Charing Cross, and ultimately becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society.
