A good quality Victorian rosewood veneered four-glass mantel clock, the 8-day double fusee movement with hour strike and repeatwork on a bell. The silvered engraved brass dial is signed by the maker and retains its original blued steel hands.

* Thomas Leonard is listed on page 477 of Brian Loomes’s Clockmakers of the World: 21st Century Edition as working in London between 1851 and 1869.

We are fortunate enough to have the clock’s original bill of sale dated 1851.
On the original bill of sale, T. Leonard describes himself as a “Clock, Watch and Regulator Manufacturer, MECHANICIAN, & C.”
The clock was sold for seven guineas and is described as a: “Superior Striking Clock in Plated Glass Rosewood Case, Iron rod Pendulum, Silver Dial by Thos Leonard”
“Nett Cash settled April 1st 1851” and it is signed by the maker.

It is extremely rare to find a clock with its original bill of sale
