The "Les Maitres de l'Affiche" series was offered as a subscription series to collectors. Every month for 60 months, from December 1895 through November 1900, subscribers received by mail, 4 loose sheets (Maitres) with a cover sheet.
The "Maitres de l'Affiche," were issued as separate numbered sheets, referred to as "plates" (PL). They were numbered, with the printers name "Imprimerie Chaix," in the margin at the bottom left hand corner, "PL.1" to "PL.240." In the margin at the bottom right hand corner of each, is a blind embossed stamp from a design of Cheret's. Each overall plate measures approximately 11 3/8 in. x 15 3/4 inches. (28cm x 38cm).
There was this beautiful exhibition in the Van Gogh museum about the origin of these prints: Prints in Paris. Just take a look at their website.
On the cover of the book about this exhibition is the picture of this print which is of course extra nice.
Because of this exhibition we invested in some of the most beautiful "maitres", such as Mucha, Lautrec, Steinlen and many others. Prices vary between 500 till 1000 euro for the "normal " ones and go up till 7800 euro for the rare ones.
The print is professional framed with museum glass. We have all four lithographs, ask for the other prices. Rare to find all four.
Signed in the left corner.
