A very rare reverse painted print on glass, 'the Trial of Watson in Westminster Hall...........'painted and published by W.B. Walker, Fox & Knot Court, Cow Lane.
James Watson was one of four Spenceans (followers of Thomas Spence, a leading English revolutionary of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries), charged with High Treason following the Spa Fields Riots of December 1816. Watson was on trial during June the following year and was acquitted. The other three were released without trial.
THis print, in its original carved and stained 'Hogarth' frame, published circa 1817.
