The bell-top case is veneered in well-figured fiddle back mahogany, with gilded material-backed fretwork panels inset above the dial and on either side of the case.
The canted corners are fluted and half brass filled. The case sits on a polished and lacquered brass plinth, and is surmounted by four matching ball finials and carrying handle.
The substantial signed 8-day movement chimes the quarters on a nest of bells, playing a choice of Westminster chimes, or an 8-bell chime. It has a triple fusee mechanism, with locking pendulum for transportation.
The break-arch dial has a matted brass centre within a silvered signed Roman chapter ring. The gilt brass spandrels that surround the dial are finely cast. There are chime selection and chime / silent subsidiary dials in the arch, also with silvered rings.
