Painter and potter, born Almwick, Northumberland, the son of the artist T.H.Gibb. Harry Phelan Gibb studied in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Paris (under Laurens), Antwerp & Munich.
For 25 years he lived & worked in Paris where he was influenced by the work of Cézanne & Van Gogh.
Elected Associate of the Salon d'Automnein 1909. His work was highly thought of by the writer Gertrude Stein (1874-19460, a friend of Matisse & Picasso who had been living in Paris from 1904, also by Roger Fry & dealer Lucy Wertheim. She supported him & his wife in their declining years
Died Great Hampden, Bucks, 25 Oct 1948
Exhibited Salon D’Automne, Wertheim, Alpine & Redfern Galleries, RHA, RSA & in New York (Katz Gallery) and with the Swedish sculptor Edstom at controversial Allied Artist Exhibition at the Albert Hall organised by Frank Rutter.
