Good quality, mid-19th Century mahogany Stick Barometer in original condition; the “ogee” pediment over glazed, finely engraved silvered brass register plates, signed by the makers, and with rack-and-pinion operated vernier. The trunk of figured Cuban mahogany bearing inset Fahrenheit and Réaumur mercury thermometer; the original concealed barometer tube terminating within turned cistern cover.

An eminent partnership between Edward Troughton [jnr.] and William Simms, which operated from premises at 138 Fleet St. from 1826 until post-1900, when it eventually was taken over by Vickers Instruments. They were appointed instrument-makers to the London Board of Ordnance, producing a wide variety of barometers.
