Typed letter signed by T.S. Eliot, 175mm x 200mm in size. Single sided on Faber and Faber headed paper. Very minor wear, has been folded in four at some point, with associated fold creases. A response to a letter by the cricket writer Gerald Brodribb, noting that while he [Eliot] enjoys watching cricket, it is untrue that he coached a cricket team. The full text reads, "Dear Sir, In response to your letter of November 25th, one of the rumours that has reached you is true, and the other false. It is true that I enjoy watching good cricket; it is untrue that I ever coached the cricket at Highgate. For the latter occupation I am not qualified. Having spent my boyhood in America, my early experience was of a totally different game, and far from being qualified to coach, I am not even a good critic of such matches as I watch. I do not think that one can be a really qualified critic of any game one has never practised oneself in one's own youth. Yours Faithfully, [Signed] T.S. Eliot
