Reginald James Lloyd is an accomplished potter, stained glass artist as well as a talented painter, largely self-taught he was a member of the Royal Institute of painters and his work can be found in many museums in England and abroad. He treats his canvas as if it were a slab of stone - still part of the earth yet also treats it as if it were a stained glass window with light filtering through and then as if it were clay - clay fluent or clay - crisp each piece modelled by hand. A dark lady dominates the mood of Shakespeare's sonnets, so does the figure of a personable young woman haunt the paintings of R.J.Lloyd. She has been with the artist for some time, bringing into his pictures an element of unfathomability. What she is , why she is there, is probably a matter which even the artist could not explain. She has not yet been exorcised.
