The splendid gold decoration as well as the paintings of landscapes and harbor scenes by Johann Georg Heintze

The decoration of these terrines is unique. Comparative pieces only were found in the former estate of the Prussian queen but they have been lost in war. Only one similar complete pair of this terrine type is known (Bayerisches Nationalmuseum) which is painted with battle scences.

It can be assumed that these terrines never were part of a dinner service, but rather part of the interiors design of a palace, for example as top pieces on chimneys, commodes and consoles.
