Unusual Gillows serpentine fronted Side Cabinet
A very fine late 18th century George III period mahogany serpentine form "sheveret" cabinet attributed to GILLOWS, with one long drawer over cupboard doors, banded in ebony and cross-banded in kingwood. Raised on square tapering legs and original spade feet. 42” W, 17” D, 33” H

Two cabinets of identical form, in satinwood with raised bookshelves above are in Tatton Park, supplied by GILLOWS to the Egerton family and referred to as "sheveret cabinets". A Gillows estimate dated 31st July 1790 shows that they cost £5 10s. 10 1/2d each to make and the maker was James Burton. These can be seen in the Yellow Drawing Room
