Unusual Scottish Figured Mahogany Antique Secretaire / Chest
This Unusual Scottish Figured Mahogany Antique Secretaire / Chest circa, 1820 is Truly Unique and comes with full history that is quite remarkable and also apparently by the cabinet makers James Mein. With a beautifully figured top with half round moulded edge and unusual brass inlay with ebonized detailing. The central secretaire has a striking flamed mahogany central panel with key with working lock and the front falls down to reveal a writing surface with several pigeon holes and four unusually figured small drawers. The secretaire drawer is flanked by four oak lined cock beaded drawers with the original, well used brass handles. The lower section has two beautifully figured flamed mahogany doors with unusual beaded edge / cross banding and small brass inlaid detailing. The interior comprises of three oak lined sliding linen trays and stands on small turned bun feet. This wonderful piece is full of the charm and character of a true antique and the mahogany has aged to a warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
