'Vainqueur du Derby' (Winner of the Derby) - A Fine Patinated Bronze Equestrian Group by Pierre-Jules Mêne.

Bronze, brown patina.

This fine bronze equestrian group is thought to represent the 1862 Derby Winner, Caractacus. The wax model was first exhibited at the Salon of 1863, with a bronze version following a year later. It was listed in Mêne's catalogue as number 16 under the title 'Jockey à cheval' and was edited in two sizes, the present cast being an example of the larger version.
