George II period antique D end extending dining table. This table is made of dense grained solid Cuban mahogany that has faded to a glorious golden colour over the last two hundred and sixty years. The top is decorated with a lovely wide cross banding all the way around the edge, divided by ebony stringing.
The whole piece divides into two separate tables supported by gate leg action. The knuckle joints are in surprisingly tight and in good condition. The legs themselves are solid mahogany. They are straight but with chamfer to the edge which makes them appear much more slender than they actually are. The table legs are tucked unusually far under the table so as not to interfere with human ones.
This is a very original dining table with outstanding timber, colour and patination.
