Circa 1880, exhibition quality Victorian copy of an Adam pedestal sideboard in the classic shape. The centre section has a brass gallery finished with urns, and a crossbanded edge. The front is convex with a carved beading on the fore edge. There are two curved drawers below with carved fans, bell drops and reeding. The centre has a mythical face which is surmounted by swags with foliate carving beneath. The two pedestals either side have pagoda tops with a stylish beading, almost like gadrooning around the edge, and as the concave edge comes down to meet the body of the pedestal it is profusely carved with swags and tails, acanthus leaves and a classic mythical face in the centre. Below this is a door carved with figures from the classics, depicting ladies, urns and eagles. Both these doors are hinged and open to reveal on one side a drawer and on the other side slides. Beneath these again there is a further cupboard door with carved capital plasters on both sides and again a richly carved centre panel depicting swags and tails and carved faces. All stands on classical hairy paw feet at the front. The whole sideboard is a great colour, very stylish and quite imposing.
Size 123cm high x 229cm wide x 60cm deep.
