Keeping and breeding ‘Fancy Pigeons’ was very popular in the 19th century and during Victorian times fancy pigeons had entered what has been called the glory years with even Queen Victoria herself keeping aviaries of fancy pigeons at Windsor Castle which included red Jacobins. At this time illustrators and engravers produced very accurate depictions of these often rare and unusual pigeon breeds.
By James Barclay Hennell, London, 1879.
