19th century stoneware Lipscombe & Co water filter
Of slender ovoid form, buff coloured glazed body. Salt-glazed applied handles with relief white vine garlands, crest and floral decoration.
Inscribed on central panel 'Lipscombe & Co Patentees - 44 Queen St. Mansion House, London, Removed from Temple Bar',
Lipscombe & Co., a London firm, was renowned for its water filters. The company was acquired by James Dearson of the Whittington Pottery, Derbyshire, who merged it with the Derbyshire pottery in 1884.
