This decorative silver plated Victorian shell biscuit box has a pretty interior with pierced covers which can be opened. Silver plated with gold plated lining. Deep embossed decoration of scrolls, flowers and leaves. Height 25 cms. Width 19 cms. Marked underneath witj silver plate marks for Fenton brothers Staniforth Plate. Circa 1880.
This pretty folding box is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. The box movement works well. The silver plate is original and not worn.

Traditionally these boxes were kept by the fire to warm the biscuits.
They usually have pretty pierced grills to keep the biscuits in place which can be lifted to access the contents.
