An excellent quality antique sterling silver drinks set consisting of a tall slim wine jug and 2 matching wine cups. All with fine quality engraved birds, butterflies and bamboo decoration in the Japanese aesthetic style. Each piece has the original gilt interior. Jug contains 1,500 ml, height 34.5 cms, spread 12.5 cms. Cups each contain 200 ml, height 20 cms, diameter 6.2 cms. Weight 1073 grams, 34.5 troy ounces. London 1875. The ewer has makers mark for F Elkington. The goblets are marked Barnard Brothers and also overmarked for F Elkington.
This handsome set is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. The silver marks are all clear and easy to read. The engraving is crisp. The interior gilt is not worn and is a bright colour. The wine ewer has a gilded lid which is weighted and there is a small patch of wear to the top (see photo).
