A rare antique silver plated novelty spoon warmer in the shape of a cornucopia. Fine quality and unusually large size. Hinged lid. With attractive engraved decoration overall, the base has a bead border and decorative carrying support. Height 15 cms. Length 23 cms. Stamped underneath for the maker Roberts & Belk, Sheffield, UK. Circa 1870.
This unusual spoonwarmer is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. No plate wear. The engraving is crisp. Stamped with Victorian silver plate marks on the back of the carrying support.
Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
These collectible items were originally made to assist in keeping food warm in the chilly Victorian houses. They were particularly useful in spooning out gravy. Nowadays they are popularly used as flower holders, toothbrush holders, pen pots etc.
