Item Description / Dealer Expertise

Robert Finlay McIntyre was a London based artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, the New English Art Club and the Goupil Gallery. His paintings are delicate and often painted in an impressionistic manner. This painting depicts Cromer Sands in Norfolk on a summer’s day. Cromer was an archetypical Victorian seaside town and the pier evident in this painting still survives today. In the foreground is a fishing boat with its crab baskets alongside and on the beach an artist sketches whilst children build a sandcastle in their summer hats.
