Doumet (1761-1818) was born in Toulon the son of painter and sculptor G Doumet. Zacharie-Felix made a career of naval and local painting , fleeing to Corsica and then Lisbon during the hectic years of 1793-1806. This extraordinary view of the Mediterranean estate of the local Reverdit family is the counterpart to the previous illustration.

The near aridity of the country-side is a perfect foil to the blues of sea and sky; the comparative youth of the trees an indication of the wild nature of the terrain and the port of Toulon from which the estate drew its wealth. The view encompasses the seaward landscape viewed from a belvedere and along the spine of a terracotta-tiled roof The area, delineated on a map of 1826, is submerged beneath the suburb of Toulon known as 'Les Amoureux' after the Chemin des Amoureux seen to the right of the vista, a side road from the main Frejus-Toulon route. The harbour and bay of Toulon are visible in the distance, as are Fort Malgre to the left and Fort M. St Catherine on the right beyond the Chateau Vert.
